VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) Requirementsįor complete information on installing, configuring, or morphing an ESXi™, Hyper-V®, or KVM hypervisor, see the Tech Note: Installing or Upgrading to 6.9 on a Virtual Appliance. The C1000V, C2000V, and C3000V appliance images should be used for performance and scale testing or to mimic a production environment.
The CLABV appliance image is for training, configuration testing, and demonstrations. You can even perform virtual export to Microsoft Hyper-V cluster-shared volumes. Starting with the 6.7.0 release, the names of the ClearPass Policy Manager appliance types have changed: * Rapid Recovery supports one-time virtual export, letting you generate a bootable VM from a recovery point and virtual standby, in which the bootable VM you generate is continually updated after each backup. To address this, the warnings during boot for disk performance have been suppressed. This issue might result in the displayed IOPS values having differences between boot and current times. Virtual appliances might display different input/output per second (IOPS) values during boot time depending on the hypervisor in use.
Customers using the Apple MacOS may wish to use our online or hosted software options instead.
We recommend that virtual appliance deployments use thick provisioning for drives for optimal performance. While some customers run ProSeries in a Windows emulation environment (i.e Virtual Machine) on the Apple MacOS operating system, support for this type of install may be limited. ClearPass Policy Manager requires a continuous sustained high data I/O rate. Most virtualized environments use a shared disk subsystem assuming that each application will have bursts of I/O without a sustained high I/O throughput. You must also ensure that the disk subsystem can maintain the IOP’s throughput as detailed in the hypervisor requirements sections below.
To ensure scalability, dedicate or reserve the processing and memory to the ClearPass Policy Manager virtual appliance instance.
If you do not have the VA resources to support a full workload, then you should consider ordering a ClearPass Policy Manager hardware appliance. Virtual appliance requirements are adjusted to align with the shipping ClearPass Policy Manager hardware appliance specifications. For more information on selecting the best appliance for your system, see the ClearPass Policy Manager Scaling and Ordering Guide. In general, the better the hardware configuration of your computer, the better your experience with Discovery Studio will be. This topic specifies the minimum hardware configurations required by Discovery Studio and the operating systems on which Discovery Studio is supported. These requirements supersede earlier requirements that were published for ClearPass Policy Manager 6.x installations. General system requirements and recommendations. 1024 x 768 resolution for visual design tools. 800 x 600 screen resolution for administration tools. Before upgrading, you should check the manufacturer's websites to ensure that all hardware that you will be using (Sound cards, MIDI controllers, etc.) is compatible. Please carefully review all virtual appliance (VA) requirements, including functional IOP ratings, and verify that your system meets these requirements. Computer or virtual machine (VM) with 64-bit X64 architecture processor.
